Kenya play with Sri Lanka in the opening match at 7:354 PM before facing Australia at 11:35 PM tonight.

Kenya women's three on three basketball team is raring to go at the Commonwealth Games ahead of the tip-off set for later today in Birmingham.

KPA’s Hilda Indasi, who is part of the team that also has USA-based Victoria Reynolds, and Equity Hawks’ Melissa Atieno, says that the team is ready to compete despite the pressure coming from the fact that they are the only African side at the competition.

Indasi is optimistic that they will give a good showing of themselves despite not having much experience participating in the three-by-three sport.

“We started our training almost two months ago and the sessions have been intense. At some point, I remember we really felt fatigued and felt like we needed some rest. We are now in Birmingham and we can feel the game spirit and we are ready for the competition. I love the pressure. The fact that we are the only African country here and also given that we haven’t been participating as much means we have a lot of potential. Personally, I am very curious and ready to compete and I think we will leave with good results," she said.

Comparing 3X3 to 5X5, Indasi notes that the latter is a game of ID and decision making, making it an open sport for all competitors and giving them a better chance

"Three on three is different from five on five. It is a game of IQ and quick decision-making. I don't think it is much about talent, with all due respect to those who play it professionally. I believe we are all on the same level. I also believe that victory here is more achievable than five on five," she added.

Kenya qualified by virtue of its status as the top Commonwealth African nation in the respective FIBA 3×3 Federation Rankings for men and women.
